Sydney University Athletics Club member Anneliese Rubie has qualified for a berth in the semi-finals of the women’s 400m at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Rubie won the fourth heat of the event this morning in 52.32sec, ahead of Galefele Moroko of Botswana, who ran a personal best of 53.28 sec, and Ashley Kelly of the British Virgin Islands in 53.45 sec.

The semi-finals will be run tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at the Carrara Stadium track.

Rubie made the semi-finals of the women’s 400m at the Rio Olympic Games, where she was also a member of the Australian 4-400m relay team that made the final.

She has also competed at three World Championships and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rubie ran an imposing 51.92 to win the 2018 Australian 400m Championship gold medal and with it automatic qualification for the Gold Coast. 

A 2017 Bachelor of Arts graduate, Rubie is a committed Sydney University Athletics Club member who always fronts up for her club.
