Sydney University Rugby League Club’s move to enter a team in the Sydney Shield competition began on a positive note.
After having a bye in Round 1, Sydney University accounted for Moorebank Rams 28-26 in their Round 2 debut at Hammondville Oval.
Corey Jefferys, Tesimoni Taliauli, Jordan Chong Sun, Ben Pointer, Josh Delailoa scored for the Students, with Daniel Arahu adding four conversions.
Josh Wilkinson bagged a pair for the hosts, with Tyrone Harding and Jake Horton also adding four pointers, while Nikau Williams landed three conversions.
Asquith Magpies proved too strong for the Students in their Round 3 clash at Norford Park, running in six tries in a 30-20 result.
Jale Seninawanawa scored three of the Magpies tries, with Awishkar Gnyawali, Braeden Batiste and Luke Hodge also touching down, while Peter Nay (2) and Kore-Lee Perana landed conversions
Matt Long, Tesimoni Taliauli, James Morgan and Joe Kavoa crossed for Sydney University, with Tjaden McLean landing two conversions.
The Students were unlucky not to come away with the points in their 24-22 Round 4 loss to Wentworthville United at Ringrose Park on Sunday.
Siaosi Sisifa scored two of the host’s four tries, with Rameses Tuipulotu and Blake Sutton scoring the other two. Brendon Newton proved the difference between the two outfits with his four conversions.
Jordan Chong Sun, Josh Boumelhem, Lemoto Langifisi and Tjaden McLean crossed for the Students, with Daniel Arahu landing three conversions.
Undefeated East Campbelltown head the competition on eight points after four rounds, with Cabramatta (8) second on for and against, St Marys (7), Hills District Bulls (6), Guilford (6) and Asquith (5) making up the top six.
Wentworthville and Sydney University are one point out of the six.
Sydney University will host Ryde-Eastwood Hawks in a Round 5 clash at Henson Park, starting at 10.45 this Saturday.
