Sydney University Lions had many impressive performers in their 44-12 win over University of Canberra Grizzlies in their Round 3 Tertiary Cup rugby league clash at The Meadows in Canberra on Saturday.

After conceding an early try, the Lions hit back with first half tries to hold a 10-6 lead at the break. But it was a six-try second half that impressed the coaches.

The Lions work rate and teamwork improved as the game went on and they found plenty of gaps in the Grizzlies defence, with Williams Grooms, Junior Taupo and Daniel Harrison to the fore.

One of Taupo’s breaks led to a long-range Joe Andrews try, while Harrison’s two second-half tries helped the Lions establish a comfortable with 20 minutes to go.

The Kobe Jones Man of the Match was William Grooms.

Round 4 action will see both Sydney University sides taking on Norwest Polecats at Marrickville Oval this Saturday, May 9, with Division 2 kicking off at 1.15pm and Division I starting at 3pm.
