A 19-run, last wicket stand helped Sydney University consolidate their second position on the NSW Premier competition ladder with a nail-biting one wicket win over Blacktown Mounties at University Oval on Saturday and Sunday.

After dismissing the Mounties for 174, the Students were struggling at 9-158 when Devlin Malone joined No.9 Dugald Holloway at the crease.

Holloway smacked two boundaries and a six to finish unbeaten on 23, while Malone eked out six as the Students finished 9-177.

Ryan McElduff (26), Charlie Dummer (24) and Varun George (23) all made starts for the hosts, but Salman Irshad kept the Mounties in the picture, finishing with 5-72 off 22 overs.

Randwick-Petersham head the Belvidere Cup ladder on 59 points after 11 rounds, with Sydney University (52), Sydney (49), Bankstown (44), UTS North Sydney (44) and Eastern Suburbs (44) making up the top six.

After a horror start to the season, Sydney University Second Grade are finally making a move with a bonus point win over Blacktown Mounties at Joe McEleer Reserve on Saturday helping their cause.

Although sitting 12th on the ladder, the Students are just a win outside the top six which is headed by Eastern Suburbs.

Sydney University head the Third Grade ladder by a healthy margin and furthered their cause with a bonus point win over the Mounties at St Paul’s College Oval on Saturday.

Opener Nicky Craze topscored for the Students with 76 as they posted 243 before rolling the Mounties for 89, thanks to the efforts of Andrew Hazard (2-6), Ben Mitchell (2-21), Josh Toyer (2-23) and Murray Watts (2-25).

The Students sit on 59 points on the Mitchell Cup ladder, with Manly-Warringah (48), Parramatta (44), Bankstown (43), Mosman (43) and Eastern Suburbs (38) making up the top six.

Sydney University Fourth Grade are second on the Reid Cup ladder behind Hawkesbury, while Fifth Grade are 14th on the David Sherwood Cup ladder which is headed by UTS North Sydney.

Sydney University are third on the coveted Club Championship ladder behind Bankstown and Eastern Suburbs.

Sydney University will meet Campbelltown-Camden in a two-day Round 12 fixture at Raby Oval on February 1 and 8.
