Sydney University strengthened their position on the NEAFL ladder with a 14-point win over Southport at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday.
The Students joined Sydney Swans and Southport on 36 competition points, a win behind ladder leaders Canberra (40), with Aspley (32) and Gold Cast (28) making up the top six.
With four rounds of the competition proper to be played, Sydney University are now within striking distance of claiming the minor premiership.
They play the Giants at Spotless Stadium on Saturday, followed by matches against Redland at Scottsdale Park, Canberra Demons at Blacktown International Sportspark and Northern Thunder at BIS, interspersed by a Round 19 bye.
Damien Bonney and Austin Lucy bagged doubles in Sydney University’s 79-65 win at the weekend, while Joshua Hall (3) and Robert Clements (2) led the way for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Nicola Barr and Amy Foo each kicked three goals in Sydney University’s 87-25 win over UTS Shamrocks at Sydney University Oval on Saturday.
Macquarie University head the Sydney Women’s Premier Division ladder on 48 points, with UNSW Eastern Suburbs (40), Auburn-Penrith (38) and Southern Power (24) making up the top four. Western Wolves (18) and Sydney University (16) are still in striking distance of playing in the finals.
