Sydney University’s outright loss to UTS North Sydney at University Oval on Saturday saw the defending Belvidere Cup premiers drop out of the top six.

The win resulted in UTS North Sydney moving to third on the ladder behind undefeated Campbelltown-Camden and Eastern Suburbs, with Randwick-Petersham, Bankstown and Penrith making up the top six. The Students are seventh after four rounds.

Having rolled Sydney University for 111 on day one at University Oval, UTS North Sydney replied with 7(dec)-163 before dismissing the hosts for 196. Tim Cummins (68 not out) and Ben Trevor-Jones (54) were the main contributors for Sydney University in the second dig, while Matthew Alexander collected 4-49.

Needing 145 for the outright, Justin Avendano (78 not out) and Benjamin Bryan (44 not out) made short work of it as the visitors amassed 2-148 off 32 overs.

UTS North Sydney and Sydney University played out a draw in the Second Grade fixture at Bon Andrews Oval on Saturday, while the Students collected first innings points in Third and Fourth grades and UTS North Sydney earned first innings points in Fifth Grade.

Rounds five and six will be limited overs matches with Sydney University pitted against Western Suburbs at Pratten Park this Saturday, before hosting  Parramatta at University Oval the following week.

Meanwhile, Sydney University’s Metropolitan Cup side eked out a draw with Warringah at Mike Pawley Oval on Saturday.

Warringah batted through the first day before declaring at 4-402 on the back of Michael Singh’s unbeaten 183 and Josh Cooper’s 150. Sydney University batted out there second day, finishing at 9-248 off 93 overs, with Jack Hennessy (90),  Ashwin Dixit (38) and Rohan Joshi (28) weathering most of the storm.
