The University of Sydney has been named Male & Female pennant winners as well as Overall Champions at UniSport Australia’s Div 1 Nationals competition for Athletics at the weekend.

The 51-strong student body represented the University in a number of disciplines to finish with an incredible 388 points overall, over 200 points ahead of second place. The University of Melbourne took silver with 167.5 points and UTS came in third with 158.

The Men’s Competition point score saw Sydney finish with 191 points (UTS in second with 85 and Macquarie in third at 54), and the Women’s score adding up to a huge 197 points. The University of Melbourne finished in second with 116.5 points.

  • Josh Ralph (800m)
  • Nicola McDermott (HJ)

  • Martin Cooper (10000m)
  • Women’s 4xMedley (Jenneke, Cowie, Luisa Healey, Beth Croft)
  • Womens 4x100m (Jenneke, Cowie, Healey, Sophie McGovern)
  • Men’s 4x100m (Fisher, Damian Mizzi, Nick Van Gelder, Neil Song)
  • Men’s 4x400m (Fisher, Mizzi, Obssa Youssouf, Brodie Rushby)

Congratulations to Michelle Jenneke (100mH), Nicola McDermott (High Jump) and Gen Cowie (400mH) who set Championship records in their respective competitions.

A special mention to Sydney Uni Athletics Club x Melbourne Uni Athletics Club athlete Catriona Bisset of University of Melbourne who moved to the fourth fastest Australian of all time in the 800m with 1:59.78.
