Students secure finals berth

Sydney University maintained second place on the NSW Men's Premier cricket ladder with a first innings result over Fairfield-Liverpool at Rosedale Oval on Saturday.

Hayden Kerr (53), Daniel Miller (50) and William Masojada (48 not out) helped the Students to 263 on day one of the Round 13 match, before they dismissed the hosts for 249 on day two.

Luke Ohrynowsky (75), Mitchell Williams (61) and Raveesh Srivastava (39) kept their side in the hunt, while Kerr claimed 3-25 and Charlie Cassell collected 3-30 to secure the win.

With two rounds to play before the Qualifying Finals, Randwick-Petersham head the First Grade Belvidere Cup ladder on 66 points, with Sydney University holding down second place on 59 points and Eastern Suburbs (51), Sydney (50), Bankstown (45) and UTS North Sydney (45) making up the top six.

Sydney University head the Third Grade ladder on 68 points, with Mosman (55), Bankstown (50), Manly-Warringah (49), Sydney (47) and Parramatta (46) making up the top six.

The Students also head the Fourth Grade ladder on 60 points, with Hawkesbury (55) St George (48), UNSW (45), Bankstown (45) and Penrith (45) making up the top six.

Bankstown head the Club Championship on 1320 points, with Sydney University holding down second place on 1140 points, just ahead of Eastern Suburbs on 1135.

Sydney University will host seventh-placed St George in a two-day match at University Oval starting this Saturday and round out the season proper with a limited overs fixture against Eastern Suburbs at Waverley Oval.

Third Grade: Sydney University 1-87 off 13 overs (James Crowley 41 not out, Bennett Walsh 38 not out) and 1-71 off 14 overs (Nicky Craze 42 not out, Bennett 17 not out) defeated Fairfield-Liverpool 86 off 38 overs (Justin Bertovic 30; Matthew Moran 3-11, Murray Watts 3-17, Sam Wood 3-24) and 70 off 35 overs (Justin Bertovic 20; Jack Lawson 4-23, Henry Clark 3-13) outright at Fairfield Oval. Fifth Grade: Sydney University 150 off 67 overs (Morris Fredriksson 28,  Maxim Shanahan 27, Brad Kayani 25; Daniel Marshall 3-9, Cameron Frendo 2-027) drew with Fairfield-Liverpool 8-132 (Peter Pigadas 47, Salvik Ashwal 20; Matthew Johns 5-28) at Don Dawson Oval on Saturday.

 

 

Metropolitan Cup - Round 14 (Two-day match)

 

Sydney University 184 off 58.3 overs (Cullen Hathurusinghe 40, Clancy  Barrett 35, Henry Cain 34, Ryan Blayney 25) defeated Blacktown Mounties 148 off 71 overs (Malay Doshi 5-42, Thomas Crawford 3-13) on the first innings  at St Paul's College Oval on Sunday. NSW Women's Premier competition - Round 14 (Limited overs)

 

First Grade: Universities 173 off 49 overs (Carly Leeson 45, Bess Heath 45; Ahilya Chandel 2-17, Nell Bryson-Smith 2-23) defeated Sydney 117 off 33.5 overs Gizelle Plummer 51; Stella Campbell 3-13, Rachel Trenaman 3-20) by 56 runs at Drummoyne Oval on Sunday.
