Two weekends ago, both Yekaterina Yurkova and Olexandr Sheychnkov came home with Gold after representing Sydney Uni Judo Club at the 2019 NSW State Titles Kata Championship.

Both members received the highest score of the Championship, and their names will be engraved on the NSW Katana. Congratulations Yekaterina and Olexandr!

The Junior Shiai (fighting) competition also saw Valentine Metrat win Gold in his first Australian tournament as a member of the club, after previously competing in France.  Daviti Bitsaze received his first medal in a major tournament, claiming Silver in the U38 Junior Boys, and Dimitris Giantsios received Bronze in the U55 Senior Boys.  Although Jordan Min did not place this time, Coach Yuki commended the junior member for his spirit, and his significant improvement from previous competitions.

In the Adult competition, Keisuke Samata, from Japan, competed in his first Australian tournament and came home with Bronze. George Kholhov won Silver in the Senior Men’s U90kg, and Andrew Roberts tied Bronze in the same division, after fighting with an injury.  Congratulations to the Club’s President, Luuja Batbold, receiving Bronze competing as a green belt in a tournament against black belts.

The NSW State Titles are a qualifier for the 2019 Australian Judo National Championships in June. Results will be coming up here.
