SUAC athletes took the drive down the Hume Highway to compete at the Canberra Classic over the weekend. Getting towards the real business end of the season and it looks to be shaping up as a big season for SUAC with a large number of athletes producing strong performances and personal bests across a variety of events.
Wins to SUAC athletes came from Ella Nelson in the 200m (23.00), Michelle Jenneke in the 110 hurdles (12.99), Angie Ballard had 3 wins in the 100/200 and 400 wheelchair races. Joshua Ralph won the men’s 800 (1.48.98), Angus Armstrong got up in the Pole vault (5.35), Justin Merlino got the chocolates in the 110 hurdles (13.85) and James Nipperess won the Steeple (8.50.99).
Other solid performances came from Jenny Blundell 2nd in the 1500 with Holly Campbell 4th in the same race, Larissa Pasternatsky 5th in the 100m in a personal best time of 11.81 and again in the 200m with a personal best of 23.82, Annie Rubie was 5th in the 800m in 2.03, Paige Campbell was 3rd in the 5000m in a huge personal best with Emily Ryan also running a big personal best in the same race, Liz Clay ran a PB in the 110 hurdles for 3rd ( 13.36), Gen Cowie finished 3rd in the 400 hurdles in a personal best, Nicola McDermott continued her good run of form jumping 1.85 for 3rd, Jasmine Fountas was 2nd in the Triple Jump in 12.44 and Josh Clarke and Jin Su Jung both ran 10.32 in their respective 100m races.
The athletics action continues in Sydney and Melbourne this weekend. with a Sydney Uni team travelling to Melbourne to compete against the University of Melbourne and a contingent of athletes competing at the Bankstown Classic.
