Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) athletes competed at the NSW Cross Country Championships, in Switzerland at the Para-Athletics Grand Prix and at the Balmoral Burn over the weekend.

At the NSW Cross Country Championships held at Miranda Parl, SUAC’s women’s A team of Sarah Marvin, Emily Augustine, Erin Blundell and Beth Croft won the silver medal in the grueling 4x4km event. The Club’s women lead the winter premiership.

The men’s team of Joe Ryan, Joe Burgess, Martin Cooper and Harry Wade were 4th in a high-quality affair and the B team finished 11th. The men’s team also lead the winter premiership.

Over 24-26 May in Nottwil, Switzerland, the fastest track in wheelchair racing played host to the Para-Athletics Grand Prix featuring SUACs Angie Ballard and a host of other athletes in a world class meet. Former world record holder Ballard was very impressive with a quick 55.28 for silver in the T53 400m and finished runner-up in the 100m. Ballard also finished 4th in the 800m and 6th in the 1500m.

At the Balmoral Burn, long-time Club member Jess Stafford finished 2nd in the fastest race in the event’s history, while Elise Abood was 4th in the same race.  Brodie Rushby also took home 2nd place in the men’s race with Lachlan Raper 4th.

Well done to all on these fantastic results.

SUAC athletes will next compete at a series of races in Europe and the NSW Cross Country Championships.
