SUAC athletes won an incredible 31 medals at the NSW State Championships over the weekend. The haul eclipsed last year’s record medal haul by an astonishing seven medals including 14 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Shelly Jenneke was again the star of the show winning the 100 hurldes in a very slick time of 13.05, which is the fastest time ever run in New South Wales by a local, just 1/100th outside her own NSW record. Jin Su Jung won his first state title winning the 100m in 10.41 in a tight finish.
Josh Clarke ran an impressive heat in the 200m and looked to be capable of running something very fast in the final but was robbed of a fast time by the late afternoon storm but was still able to get the victory in the 200m. Ella Nelson continued her good form winning the 200m but ran into the very same storm.
Angie Ballard had a great weekend winning both the T53 100m and 200m, taking the silver in the 1500 and the bronze in the 800m. Not to be outdone Jonathan Tang finished the weekend with a gold and 3 silver medals in the T52 100,200,800 and 1500.
Annie Rubie won the 400m in a very impressive 52.87 and later went on to take the bronze in the 200m. Nick Hough remains undefeated in the high hurdles this season running 13.77 to take the state title.
Mason Cohen won his first NSW Championship in the Open ranks having won the NSW Junior title at 800m earlier in the month. Milly Clark took out the win comfortably in the 10,000 in her first race back from injury and in the 5000 walk Nicole Fagan braved the very hot conditions and won the gold medal.
SUAC’s jumpers were not to be forgotten with Nicola McDermott winning the high jump with a 1.80 clearance and Nick Van Gelder victorious in the long jump.
Silver medals also went to Amy Pejkovic ( high jump), Josh Ralph (400), Frau Grun ( Javelin), Alex Pettigrew (800), Harry Day ( high jump) and Joe Burgess (steeple).
Bronze medals also went to Josh Tassell (200), Lizzie Jenkins (400), Georgia Wassall (800), James Nipperess (1500) and Katrina Blackett (Javelin).
It was a phenomenal weekend for SUAC with an additional 33 performances that saw SUAC athletes finish in the top 10. This weekend’s action will see SUAC athletes competing in Brisbane at the Brisbane Track Classic.
