SUAC athletes competed across the Sydney Grand Prix and the National Junior Championships over the weekend, tallying an impressive set of results across both competitions.

At the Sydney Grand Prix, Nick Hough won the 110 hurdles, proving he is in fine form to compete at the Commonwealth Games next month. Nicola McDermott, Annelise Rubie and James Nipperess are also looking in great shape leading into the Games. McDermott also took the win in the High Jump, narrowly missing her PB of 1.90m and Rubie finished 3rd in the 200m. Nipperess was 2nd in the 3000m in a tactical affair, while Emily Brichacek ran 3rd in the women’s race, having run a cracking 3000m in Canberra the previous week.

Katrina Blackett blasted through the 50m barrier in the javelin event, throwing 51.00m to finish 4th achieving a new PB and Jin Su Jung was 4th in the 100m.

At the National Junior Champs the star of the show was Sarah-Jane Clifton-Bligh who took home an incredible 7 gold medals and one bronze, Sarah- Jane won the U16 Para 100m/200m/400m/800m/1500m and Javelin and was 3rd in the Shot Put in an enormous weekend.

Aiden Harvey took the silver medal in the mens shot put with a huge throw of 18.84m, likley booking himself a seat on the plane to the World Junior Championships.

Other medallists included Obssa Youssouf who took the bronze in the mens 800m in a personal best time and Alexandra Petersen also finished with a bronze in the womens triple jump. Hugo Whitehead took gold as part of the U20 4x100m team and finished 4th in the 200m and 5th in the 100m, Sophie McGovern 7th in the 200m and Pico Dos Santos-Lee was 12th in the U18 110 hurdles.

Next up SUAC athletes will travel to the Brisbane Grand Prix on Thursday 22nd March.
