You wouldn’t blame a premiership winning team that were undefeated last season for taking a well earned break over the summer, however the Women’s AFL club’s commitment to excellence has meant they have commenced training and are already setting goals for the upcoming season.

The team trained at Steel Park in Marrickville on Monday evening where they were joined by Sydney Swans superstar Kurt Tippett.

Tippett commenced the training session by having a chat to the girls about his rehabilitation over the off season and how the Swans have been preparing for their own upcoming competition that will kick off with an intra club match this Friday at Henson Park – of which some of the Sydney University men’s squad will be involved in.

He gave some great insights into the mental preparation required when returning from injury and the things players can be doing off the field to ready themselves for their return and speed up the recovery process.

Despite some early nerves at having a superstar of the game watching and running training, the girls quickly demonstrated their precision skills which places them as top competitiors year in year out. Kurt got involved in the session, kicking with the players and organising the scrimmages.

The Sydney Swans have been investing time in getting involved in community club programs in the local area this year, and as such the Women’s program were lucky enough to be selected.

After meeting one of the competitions greats, there’s no doubt the team are more focused than ever, making strides toward what will no doubt be another fasntastic season!
