Congratulations to Sydney University Women’s Rugby Club who defeated Parramatta 35 – 17 to take out the Jack Scott Cup in the Sydney Women’s Rugby Union Grand Final played at Grantham Reserve on Saturday, August 22.

The grand final saw numerous representative players take the field showing a very high standard of play from both sides.

The first half started well with Sydney Uni’s Ash Hewson securing the first try within minutes, followed by another try by Iliseva Batibasaga. Parramatta came back strong in the second half scoring two easy tries, and converting both. Despite this, the students continued to build pressure, which lead to a number of penalties against the opposition allowing Ash Hewson to successfully add points to the scoreboard.

The team’s last SWRU title win was back in 2011, and after losing both round games against Two Blues this season, this victory proved a huge achievement.

Awards of best back and best forward were awarded to Ashleigh Hewson and Grace Hamilton, respectively, while most improved was awarded to both Sera Naiqama and Emily Chancellor.
