Sydney Uni all but ended Ainslie’s NEAFL finals ambitions at Alan Ray Oval on Saturday, taking out the Tricolours 96 to 54.

The Students kept their top four ambitions alive with a strong first quarter that saw them jump out to a 38-point lead.

Uni kept control of the contest, running out a low-scoring second half with five goals to four.

Led by Lewis Stevenson, young defender Mitch Mahady and captain Tim Barton, Sydney Uni managed 11 separate goal-kickers in an even team performance.

“We hit the scoreboard early and went in at quarter time with a significant lead. Had it not been for our inaccuracy on goal and some lapses in concentration, we could have had a heavy win. All the players chipped in at diffrent stages of the game with our best coming from Tim Barton, Lewis Stevenson, Mitch Mahady and Matt O’Dwyer. The reality is despite winning 9 of our last 11 games, we have not achieved anything as yet. Our focus now shifts to Aspley next Saturday. I can’t wait to see a focused 4 quarter effort against opposition we respect highly. Today’s performance keeps our hopes of a top 3 chance alive,” said Coach, Daniel Gilmore.

The Students will host Aspley in a blockbuster clash at Henson Park in Round 18, Saturday 8th July at 12:00pm.
