Sydney Uni Women’s soccer has ended Manly United’s season, winning their sudden death semi-final 5-4 on Saturday, August 15.

Uni took some time to warm up, with Manly threatening twice in the early stages but these attempts were soon to be matched by star of the show for University, Stephanie Ambrose.

Ambrose caused United many headaches, skillfully pushing down the left. In the thick of it, Ambrose managed sharp crosses while under heavy challenges from Manly defence. This defence however lapsed when Elizabeth Grey claimed Uni’s equaliser in the 41st minute, easily playing the ball beyond Harris.

In the thrilling contest, United hooked a goal back in the 64th minute, raising comeback chances.

A tight 3-3 score line at the 83rd minute had both teams searching for a break in stoppage time but this was not to be and the game extended.

The excitement from normal time continued into the additional 30 minutes.

United’s Kristie Crawford made the first mark by way of free kick. To this Uni replied with their own free kick into the back of the net, taking the score to a staggering 4-4.

Extra time called for an extra special performance by Heather Garriock’s Uni side in the form of dangerous attacker, Georgia Keen, to secure the striking win.

Having finished third on the ladder and third in the overall Football NSW NPL 1 Club Championship, Uni now progress to play a-yet-to-be-decided team (Football NSW is reviewing the game and outcome).
