Sydney University Women’s Rugby Club (SUWRC) representative Marjorie Linares has returned back to Sydney after representing Venezuela in the rugby sevens at the recent South American Games.
The SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder (PhD in Molecular Bioscience) Venny only received notice of her selection to participate in the Venezuelan squad two weeks prior to the competition, which was held on March 8-9 in Santiago, Chile.
Competing against six other teams –Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile and Paraguay – Venezuela were unable to make it out of the group stages, despite being very competitive.
Linares is hoping to compete again for Venezuela during the 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.
