Sydney University’s clean-sweep of Fairfield-Liverpool at the weekend saw SUCC move up to fourth on the Club Championship table and fifth on the First Grade ladder.

First Grade’s 47-run limited overs win at Rosedale Oval came on the back of skipper Nick Larkin’s 136-run contribution.

Coming off twin ducks for NSW in their recent 10-wicket loss to Tasmania, Larkin struck five boundaries and three sixes in his 141-ball stay.

He put on a 102-run opening stand with Hayden Kerr, who cracked 62 off 63 balls. A quick-fire, unbeaten 43 from No.7 Tim Cummins helped the Students to 6-314 off their 50 overs.

Sydney University had the hosts 4-85 before Jeremy Cashman (74) and Harmon Sandhu (52) put on a 100-run fifth-wicket stand. But when they departed the chase was too much and Fairfield-Liverpool finished 9-267.

Campbelltown-Camden remain on top of the First Grade ladder on 38 points after eight rounds, with Sutherland (36), Parramatta (34), Eastern Suburbs (31), Sydney University (31) and Randwick-Petersham (31) making up the top six.

Parramatta head the Club Championship table on 792 points, with Manly-Warringah (636), Sydney (625) and Sydney University (608) still in contention.

While Larkin was making merry at Rosedale Oval, Second Grade opener Nicky Craze was cutting loose at Sydney University Oval.

Craze blasted an unbeaten 162 in Sydney University’s 5-300 off 50 overs. His innings included eight boundaries and a dozen sixes.

The visitors were well-placed at 2-125 before Ben Joy struck with four wickets to leave them 9-211 off 50 overs.

The Students also won Third, Fourth and Fifth grades, with Threes and Fours earning bonus points.

The competition breaks for Christmas and will resume on January 6 with Sydney University to take on St George in a 50-over fixture at Hurstville Oval.
