A seven-match winning streak has moved Sydney University to fifth on the 2010 Sydney Grade rugby union Shute Shield ladder with two rounds to play.
The Students ran in seven tries in their 42-27 win over Gordon at Chatswood Oval on Sunday to edge ahead of Randwick on the competition ladder which is headed by Eastwood on 74 points. Manly (72), Eastern Suburbs (68), Southern Districts (68), Sydney University (61) and Randwick (57) make up the top six.
The Students will host Manly at No.1 Oval on Saturday, before rounding out the season proper against Penrith at Nepean Park.
After a disastrous start to the season, where the Students sank to as low as 10th, they have worked their up the ladder with consecutive wins over Parramatta (68-24), Southern Districts (43-10), Warringah (48-12), Northern Suburbs (30-20), West Harbour (50-5) Eastwood (38-24) and Gordon.
After completing a clean-sweep in grade and Colts matches against Eastwood, the Students dropped just one match against Gordon – with Third Grade Colts going down 24-7.
