Sydney University’s Emma Wilson won the overall individual alpine female skier award at the 2008 Australian University Snow Sports Championships held at Mt Buller in the Victorian snowfields.


In a busy week on the snow, Wilson won the alpine slalom, the alpine giant slalom, the alpine super giant slalom and the skier cross, and finished 3rd in the freestyle skier competitions and 4th in the moguls.


Her Sydney University team-mate Samantha Weekes also had a successful competition, finishing 3rd in the overall individual skier award after gaining a 2nd in the alpine slalom, 3rd in the alpine giant slalom, 4th in the alpine super giant slalom and 5th in the skier cross.


With Aimee Watson finishing 1st in the cross country individual; Alexander Schoulal finishing 4th in the freestyle and 6th in the slope style alpine; and Dana Perrignon-Roth 4th, Rachel Friend 4th, and Nicole Barnes 6th in the half pipe alpine, the Sydney University women finished 2nd in the overall pointscore.


Sydney University’s male competitors finished 3rd in the team’s cross country, while individually Thomas Treloar finished 5th in the snowboard giant slalom and 6th in the snowboard competitors; and Gregor Matthews finished 6th in the half pipe snowboard.


The 2008 Australian University Games will be held in Melbourne during the mid-semester break from September 28 to October 3.
